Rebecca, how did you get involved with PROPEL?

I first started attending PROPEL events in 2008 when I had just moved to Portland. As a young professional, it was a great way to meet others and get myself out into the community.

You are the organizer of this year’s Ignition Awards. Can you tell us a little about the event?

This is a mid-year event hosted by PROPEL and the Portland Regional Chamber.  PROPEL is focused on our mission, to help young people and businesses thrive in Maine, and that is what this event is all about! Ignition Awards is an evening dedicated to acknowledging successes for local businesses, large and small, networking, enjoying one of Portland’s most up-and-coming spaces, while watching amazing entertainment from Circus Maine and having awesome food and drinks! During the event we will be making a few announcements, introducing the PROPEL board, and celebrating the award recipients.

How can someone nominate a business for one of the awards?

Nominations can be made at

One of the awards is Food Truck of the Year. Do you have a personal favorite food truck?

Despite the fact that I have been in Portland for over 10 years I have NEVER eaten at Portland’s amazing food trucks, so this is a portion of the event I am really looking forward to!

Why should people attend the Ignition Awards?

Because the event will be fun, entertaining, and an excellent opportunity to network and support Maine business successes!

How have you seen PROPEL make a difference in the Portland community?

One of the ways PROPEL has had a very large impact on the Portland community will be announced in more detail at our event! Come and find out all the details of our Ambassador Program!

How do you personally achieve a work-life balance?

With constant awareness. Balance of any kind takes thought and focus. It is incredibly important to me, and one way I can ensure I am able to achieve this is by working at WEX, where this is fully supported. Whenever possible, it is important to select employment with a company that aligns with your personal priorities. WEX makes great efforts to support a balanced life.

What is your favorite thing to do in Maine during the summertime?

My favorite Maine thing to do is a boat ride on Messalonskee Lake where my family lives. That is normally followed by a lakeside dinner and a late night fire.

Thank you to Rebecca for taking the time to talk with us! We can’t wait for the event.
